On Yields and Fruits Shape of F2 in Red Pepper


Abstract
This study was made to obtain the information for the utilization of F©ü in red pepper. Parental varieties of 621 (P©û) and Hot Portugal (P©ü) with pungency, F©û and F©ü were used as materials in this study. The seeds were sown in cold beds on April 20, 1968, and their seedlings were transplanted in the field on June 15, 1968. They were examined in randomized block arrangement with three replications. The results obtained are summarized as follows:
(1) In number of mature fruits, F©û increased 30.2% to 33.0% compared with parents, while when compared with parents and F©û, F©ü reduced 5.5% to 7.9% and 29.2%, respectively.
(2) In fresh weight of mature fruits, F©û was also higher showing 24.0% to 102.1% than in parents. F©ü was 27.9% higher than P©û with smaller size of fruit and lighter weight, while it was 21.5% lower than P©ü with larger size and heavier weight. And F©ü reduced 26.7% in comparison with F©û.
(3) F©û showed narrower variation in fruit shape indices but F©ü had wider variation.
(4) According to the results presented above, it may be postulated that the value of the practical utilization of F©ü in red pepper is relatively lower.
